Introduction to the Surname Index

This blog contains an index of surnames in books in the collection at the Columbia, South Carolina Family History Center. The index was originally posted on the Family Search Forums site which proved to have limited flexibility so the index has been copied to this blog to permit easier additions to the index. When completed, the index will contain the surnames in the family histories in the family history center as well as other books containing family history information such as county histories and other books in the collection. The index is also linked to WorldCat so users can find libraries in their area that might have the listed book. Books not listed in WorldCat have bibliographic information listed.

Following the list of books indexed by surname is the list of the book collection of the Columbia Family History Center by subject. Limited research for individuals can be done by staff as time permits. The staff is small, so the amount of research is limited to an overview of the requested information that can be done in detail by a researcher in the Columbia area if desired.
